The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
